The American Mediterranean Diet
The Mediterranean Diet is so versatile that it can be followed in any country, as long as their people grow fresh vegetables and can find some type of fresh fruit. American Mediterranean Diet. The first is not very difficult. They only need a piece of land, some water and a little bit of effort. Almost in every part of the World orchards can be seen, being the tomato the king of the plantations.
Nevertheless, in the last years, in the American continent the Mediterranean Diet is emerging strongly. Starting in North America, especially in USA, this lifestyle adherence has spread to Central and South America. In countries as Colombia, there are an increasing number of followers of this nutrition pattern.
It is true that in some of these places, genuine virgin olive oil is expensive or difficult to find. In these cases, this vegetal fat is being replaced by avocados, a fruit of incredible properties that offer practically the same health benefit as the olive oil.
The rest is almost the same. Fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, cereals, with some delicious particularities as the arepa, a sort of pancake made of maize flour, that you can eat either alone or filled with whatever your imagination might conceive. A diet based on completely natural products combined with an active family life.
I remember enjoying in Ecuador very pleasant and delicious meals, extraordinarily varied, despite being based mainly by vegetable products, and where relaxed ambience and joy were two other important ingredients.
Mediterranean lifestyle is not limited the the Basin.
Consequently, there is no excuse to think that the Mediterranean Diet is a distant living style restricted to the Mediterranean basin countries. Unfortunately, in many of these countries is falling into disuse and replaced by an unhealthy imported junk food with its negative consequences.
We should make a very logical consideration. The Mediterranean Diet is not promoted by any big food producers. You will not see any Mediterranean Diet or American Mediterranean Diet advertisements on TV. Its benefits are denied, fought or hidden, most of the time using fallacies. The main argument is that Mediterranean people is growing fat. It is true, but what they do not say is that it is precisely the Mediterranean people who abandoned the diet those who are becoming not only obese, but with seriously ill.
When advising Mediterranean Diet we are not trying to sell you anything. No prepared food, no miracle powders, no milk shakes. We are just offering you a longer, healthier and happier life for free, and a better future for Mankind.
